Geofit Presentation Video

Here is the first video of Geofit, a video that presents the project and launches, with its premiere, the Geofit video series, which will include interviews, updates on demo sites, and will last until the end of the project.

This video presentation of motion graphics explains the context from which the European project Geofit arises: the environmental problem and the barriers and difficulties it faces, as well as the effective and integral solutions provided by the project to overcome them. It also describes the characteristics of our geothermal retrofitting systems and our innovative tools, methods and technologies.

Finally, the video presents the pilot sites where the Geofit systems will be installed to demonstrate the results and all the countries that make up our consortium.

The video is uploaded to Geofit’s YouTube channel, so that everyone can share and help us spread the word about it!

Remember that very soon our first newsletter will be published, with more news.

New Public Deliverable: “Geothermal – IDM for Drilling Processes”

GEOTHERMAL IDM FOR DRILLING PROCESS

(DRILLING WORKS – MODELLING AND VIRTUALIZATION – GEOTHERMAL BIM INTEGRATION VISUALIZATION, MONITORING AND LIFE CYCLE CONTROL)

Deliverable by IDP

GEOFIT project creates the perfect interaction environment bringing together a set of different disciplines, technologies, knowledge and innovation. One of the main achievements of the project is to create a seven-dimension BIM model covering different aspects like design, planning, programming, installation and deployment, monitoring, simulating, and life cycle and costs management of a building geothermal retrofitting project.

Meet the Pilots: Aran Islands

BY AVRIL NÍ SHEARCAIGH

The Aran Islands pilot site in this project is located on Árainn, the largest of the three Aran Islands on the west coast of Ireland. This pilot’s focus is based on residential buildings. The Killeaney Cottages, pictured below, were selected and invited to participate. Eight of the households here are interested in taking part in GEOFIT and having their current heating system replaced by a Geothermal heat pump.

GEOFIT WORKSHOPS: Galway & Aran Islands

At the end of January we held two workshops in Ireland linked to two of our pilot sites, one located in Galway and the other in the Aran Islands. These pilot sites have different characteristics and represent different challenges for the demonstration of our project. In this post we will talk about the development of the workshops, as well as these two pilot sites, so that they can be better known.

On Forecasting Energy Demand in Buildings

Article by Eurecat

Building Energy Demand Forecast Methodology (EDCE)

For the optimal sizing and determination of the HVAC system in a building, the precise calculation of the energy demand is an essential task, especially in cases of geothermal installations, due to the fact that the effort and the costs of any afterwards modification are high. Thus, the initial calculation and dimensioning of the installation are crucial to guarantee that the expected system’s performance is achieved.

Nowadays, the dimensioning of a building’s installation can be made in 3 different ways: i) The use of empirical methods based on energy demand estimations, ii) use of real operation energy consumption profiles (acquired by the building’s SCADA system), or iii) use of detailed building energy simulations to accurately characterize the energy requirement of the building.
